About the internets of plasticstare and the plasticular inscriptor of the internet.

In May of 2000, plasticstare was born onto the internet. As time passed, in fits and spurts, blogging activity increased and decreased, in fits and spurts. As time wore on I decided to do a little writing, at which time I picked up MoveableType and the “blog” part of the site was born; that was 2001. I chose MoveableType at the time also because I was working on an online zine called Pastiche, and it allowed for some nice multi-writer functionality and things like that. In 2006, I ported the site over to Wordpress, and wrote articles fairly often through 2008, and lack of time and interests in other things caused the postings to slow down. Security issues at my hosting provider and issues with Yahoo Pipes brought my site down and also rendered the theme I had created non-functional, which sort of killed my remaining enthusiasm for keeping up the site so I basically chose a theme from the Wordpress themes library and called it a day, playing here and there with auto-posting from twitter, flickr, instagram, etc., but not doing much with the site.

Recently I’ve been playing around with code again in my spare time, and started looking at Jekyll a while back, and it seems like a nice simple way to reface my site and get away from all the over-complications that Wordpress offers. I’m removing some old posts, updating a few of them, but leaving the rest of the old posts pretty much as they were exported from Wordpress using the Jekyll exporter (while preserving the permalinks), and will be using the site again a little more frequently (for a while maybe…). So … Jekyll it is for now, the nth iteration of the site.
